Hal Sutherland Death Rumors
captain_slinky wrote in saturday_am_80s

Last night our Twitter account was tagged about a dozen times with the tweets and re-tweets claiming that legendary Filmation co-founder Hal Sutherland had died. I've been unable to confirm this rumor yet, but he lives about 5 minutes away from my house so I'll drive by there this morning and casually/discreetly try to ascertain if he's still, y'know... "With Us".

Not that any members of this community would need a reminder, but what you'd probably remember Hal best from would be He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe. Most of his Saturday Morning work was done in the 1970's on stuff like the Star Trek animated series, Flash Gordon, and all the pre-Super Friends DC Comics super heroes (Batman, Aquaman, Superman etc).

Fingers crossed that he's still with us!

I'm sure you could find some reasonably plausible reason to ring the doorbell. If it's one of those SE/NE/SW/NW type streets, just knock and ask for "Al". They will think you said "Hal" and you'll probably get your answer from their reaction. If he IS there, you can look at him, say, "There must be a mistake, I was looking for "Al". Is this 1234 SE Xyz Street?" (Knowing that it's 1234 NE Xyz Street.) They correct you and you go your merry way with them thinking that it was just someone with the wrong address. If they ask why you were there, you just tell them that a friend of a friend was going to give you a used bike for your daughter.
